Charming Shop: Plain Goods, New Preston, Conn
If I ever had a shop it would be exactly like Plain Goods of New Preston, Connecticut. And by exactly I mean EX-FRIGGIN'-ACTLY! The wares include home goods, apothecary and apparel. The aesthetic is understated lines, rough textures, natural materials. The palette is scrubbed pine, aged mahogany, white, white, off white, white, flax, indigo, charcoal and black. The goods are plain and spectacular in their integrity. I mean, it's like they stole the idea out of my head and made a shop (even though technically I've never wanted a shop and even though I wasn't even a shopkeeper when my husband owned a shop).
The proprietors of this retail bliss (I mean come on, look at that exterior!) are Andrew Fry (left) and Michael DePerno. Now, I won't say I have stalked Michael DePerno but I will admit to having cultivated an appreciation of his work since, 1996. That's 20 years people. Back in '96 I visited New York City for the first time with my then boyfriend (now husband). We loved the shop Hope & Wilder, which was DePerno's shop at the time. I then remember seeing a couple of his places published in ELLE Decor.
I stumbled upon the Plain Goods account on Instagram several months ago and have been hooked ever since. Bless Instagram. Here's a taste.
